Further to my post at the start of the week about upgrades to Anima and Kronos, we’ve now rolled out updated versions of Invictus and Profectus as well. These now include new tags from WordPress 2.8 along with archives, links and a contact form page template to give the themes great flexibility.

The next upgrade will be adding the author pages which should be added shortly :)

Jonathan Soroko from Wordpress Blue emailed me about his favourite must have plugin. It is called Insights and was developed by Vladimir Prelovac.

The plugin adds a lot of extra options to your post editor including the ability to:

  • Search your blog for posts, edit them or insert links to them into the current post
  • Insert Flickr Images
  • Insert Youtube videos
  • Search and link to Wikipedia
  • Search Google
  • Search News
  • Google Blog Search
  • Insert a Google Map

Once installed, you will have a new Insights toolbar in your post editor, which you can use to add Flickr images, youtube videos and more.

Here is an example of how you can add a Flickr image to your blog post:

I think Insights is a great plugin and I am sure many of you will find useful. I recommend checking it out :)

One of the reasons WordPress is so widely used is because of how versatile it is. It’s perfect for a small website, a magazine style website, photo gallery and of course it is the perfect solution for a blog too.

I came across a new plugin today from Thomas Teisberg called WP Chameleon. It’s a simple plugin which lets your readers choose which colour to view your blog in. You can see an example of this in action at Linux Loop

WP chameleon

Please note that this plugin requires the visitor to have javascript enabled. If it is disabled they will simply see the default theme colour.

Themes for everyone,
Functional yet Beautiful,
One Price For Them All
What do you think of it? [...]

WordPress have released 2.8.4 to address a security issue. Seems like hackers could have caused a lot of problems with this.

Using a free or premium theme is a great time-saver, even if you do know how to code your own theme. Using one where the theme developer keeps it up to date and releases new versions is even better. However, we all like to make our own little changes to our theme, so when a [...]

There are several pages on my main blog Blogging Tips that are not listed anywhere on the blog itself. For example, there is a page which appears just after signing up to the newsletter telling the visitor to check their email and another to thank them after they have clicked on the email validation link.
Unfortunately, [...]

WordPress yesterday released version 2.8.1. This release fixes many bugs rather than add any new functionality to WordPress.
Here are some of the major changes :

Certain themes were calling get_categories() in such a way that it would fail in 2.8. 2.8.1 works around this so these themes won’t have to change.
Dashboard memory usage is reduced. [...]
